WALTER CURTIS
At the 2023 AGM we made a special thank you to the very generous donation from the estate of a former member, Walter C.
Walter was a GLBC member for many years. He was very generous in helping new bowlers and a big supporter of the club. A post war immigrant from Britain, he became a proud booster of all things Canadian. He was also active in many of Goulbourn's volunteer organizations - library, local choirs, and amateur theater.
Below, Lynn (executrix) presents the cheque to President Michael. Alongside is a photo of Walter.

BURNS - NICHOL
The Green is named in honour of George & Shirley Burns - Nichol.
George was president for multiple terms. He was a demon fund raiser and also instrumental in getting Goulbourn Township to build the Green and give us a 25 year lease on it.
In the run up to the 2001 amalgamation that created the present City of Ottawa out of 10 predecessor cities, towns, townships, Goulbourn and most of the others were hellbent to get their available reserves spent on local projects before all funds ended up in the amalgamated City’s hands. All expected the new city would be focused on urban areas, not the rural ones. The Cardel Centre got built for the same reason.
George got Goulbourn to build the Green, using Township staff to do the construction.
George was a one man fund raising machine. Grants, BBQs, whatever - he got it done.
Shirley was always organizing Club events.
The Club made both of them Life Members when they had to cut back their participation.

Bill Clarke
The Bill Clarke Memorial Award is named after Bill Clarke. It is awarded annually to a member who has sustained GLBC in multiple ways. Bill Clarke joined the club in 2022 and died way too early in 2025. He was a keen member of the Greens group, who rarely missed a cutting session and was a regular volunteer. |
