GLBC Bowl Rental Policy
It is the GLBC Board’s view that bowl rentals should be a short term option for new members, affording them the opportunity to learn the game without having to purchase a set of bowls. During this period, we hope that members realize the benefits of having their own bowls by getting a feel for a specific set of bowls and learning how they react over repetitive use. Usually, by the time a member is in their third year of membership, most people have bought their own set of bowls. As set out below, the rental period may extend to the fourth year of membership or beyond in certain circumstances.
Members will have the option of purchasing a set of bowls for the current cost of replacing that set of bowls minus the amount paid in rent to that point. This option can be exercised at any time. Renting bowls beyond the 4th year is at the discretion of the Board, at a rate determined by the Board at that time.
This policy will allow the Club to maintain an inventory of newer bowls and to replenish that inventory through the sale of used bowls. Since storage space is very limited, the sale and removal of used bowls frees up the space required for new purchases.
All rentals will require a signed Rental Agreement which will record relevant member information and specific identification details describing the set of bowls being rented. In addition, all rented bowls must be stored in the storage shed and may only be taken from the property with permission, such as for an external tournament. While rented bowls are reserved for use by the renter, these bowls remain available for use by others when the renter is not present for bowling. In practice, bowls are reserved for a renter until 20 minutes before the draw starting time, after which another member may use them. Also, it is important that bowls be returned to their identified location to make it easier for everyone to locate their bowls.
Rental agreements must be renewed annually at the same time the membership fee is due and paid. This may be done by contacting the Club’s Membership Director or Bowl Rental Manager whose contact information will be available on the Club website as well as posted on the Bulletin Board. Rentals are done on a first come, first served, basis so it is possible that you may not be able to rent the same set of bowls from year to year.
For clarity, please note that rental fees are non-refundable. However, if a purchase option is exercised during a rental season, the amount paid to date will be deducted from the purchase price.
