Trainer Instructions

Send each attendee an email with the exercise descriptions attached, with instructions to read them ahead of time as there will not be time to provide detailed explanations before the exercises begin. Failure to get this pre-clinic reading done will cause significant delays throughout the session.

  • Bowl to the Ditch - delivery swing practice

Place a mat 4 to 5 paces from and facing toward the Ditch. Place another mat or other marker ½ way between the first mat and the Ditch.

  • Weight Control  - short and long -  bowling to a predetermined distance

On Rink 1, set up a 8’ X 4’ rectangle using 4 Jacks at the Hog Line; on Rink 2 set up a similar rectangle 4 paces from the Ditch. Place a brightly coloured bowl in the center of the rectangles to provide a visual reference point. The Jack is to be reset by a Monitor/Helper each time it is moved.

  • Target Shooting  - short and long - bowling to a circular target mat

On Rink 3 place/draw one 36” circle one pace inside the Hog Line. On Rink 4, place/draw one circle half-way between the Hog Line and the Ditch. Place a Jack in the center of each circle/mat as the target. The Jack is to be reset by a Monitor/Helper each time it is moved.

  • Target Line - bowling along a predetermined line

The target line is the space between the two coloured discs - a Jack is set at the far end for a visual reference only since the bowl must be delivered with enough force to cross the far Hog Line. The discs are placed at the near Hog Line mark. Distance between the discs should be about 18”. The Jack is to be reset each time it is moved.

  • Centerline Draw - bowling to a line in the center of the rink

A string or rope is placed along the centerline of Rink 5, approximately 15 ft long with 4 Jacks placed at 1 pace intervals along the centerline. The objective is to have the bowl come to rest within 12” of the rope (either side) at each Jack.
